How this is calculated
Each bucket compounds at its own rate and its own frequency — daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. A bucket's monthly, quarterly, and annual contributions stack — a $3,300 monthly contribution and a separate $20,000 quarterly bonus into the same bucket both count, landing on their own schedules. Every contribution lands at the end of its month, after that month's growth is applied, so new money doesn't start earning until the following month. Daily and monthly buckets grow every month; quarterly, semi-annual, and annual buckets only grow on the month their period actually ends — flat in between, then a jump, matching how those accounts really compound. Buckets are then added together for the combined total shown above. The goal marker shows the first month that combined total crosses your target.
About the defaults
The starting buckets model a simple two-account plan: a 4.5% high-yield savings bucket compounding daily (typical for savings accounts), and a 7% investment bucket compounding monthly — rename, remove, or add buckets, and set each one's rate and compounding to match actual accounts. This is a planning estimate, not a guarantee — actual returns will vary.
