Assumptions
Defaults reflect common long-run planning baselines. Adjust them to match your own outlook.
Growth rate is nominal — the return before subtracting inflation; inflation is applied separately above. For withdrawal rate, 4.7% is a common baseline for a 20–30 year retirement, while 4% (the original Trinity Study "4% rule") is the more conservative choice if you're retiring early and need it to last 30+ years.

Your Projection
How this is calculated
Your FIRE number is your desired retirement spending, inflated to your retirement age, divided by your withdrawal rate. Your Coast FIRE number discounts that back to today at your expected growth rate — it's the balance that, left alone, compounds into your FIRE number right on schedule.
About the defaults
10% growth is a nominal rate (before inflation) approximating long-run S&P 500 total returns; 3% inflation approximates long-run CPI. For withdrawal rate, 4.7% suits a 20–30 year retirement, while 4% — the original Trinity Study "4% rule" — is the more conservative choice for longer, early-retirement time horizons. These are planning baselines, not guarantees — actual returns will vary. This tool is for education, not financial advice.
